Brunei: RBN RECEIVES FIRST GOODWILL VISIT BY THE VIETNAM PEOPLE’S NAVY FRIGATES

MUARA, Wednesday 19 November 2014 – As part of an initiative to strengthen the friendship between Brunei Darussalam and Republic of Socialist Vietnam, as well as to expose cultures amongst the two nations and navies, two Vietnamese Frigates docked at the Muara Commercial Port today.

The two Vietnamese Frigates, Dinh Tien Hoang (Hq-011) and Ly Thai To (Hq-012) arrived in Muara for a 2-day inaugural goodwill visit to Brunei Darussalam. Both Frigates have a displacement of 2,100 tons.  It is 102 meters in length and the ship's complement consists of 84 personnel each ship. They were ceremonially welcomed by Lieutenant Colonel (L) Khairil bin Hj Abdul Rahman, officers and personnel from the Royal Brunei Navy in accordance with naval traditions on arrival. The ships belong to the Vietnam People’s Navy (VPN) headed by Rear Admiral Nguyen Van Kiem, Deputy Chief of Staff VPN and accompanied by Ships' Commanding Officers, Commander Nguyen Dinh Giang, HQ-011 and Captain Nguyen Van Ngan, HQ-12.

The head of Vietnamese delegation accompanied by the Ships’ Commanding Officers paid a courtesy call to the Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, at the Naval Headquarters.

During the call, the Commander of RBN expresses his appreciation to the Vietnam People’s Navy for giving the opportunity for RBN to reciprocate the hospitalities accorded to KDB DARULEHSAN during her goodwill visit to Haiphong, Vietnam on the 29th April 2014. They also exchanged mementos as a gesture of goodwill.  The exchange visits will directly enhance the bilateral relationship to uphold the aspirations as stated in the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the two navies.
