Brunei: 1st BN RBLF AND U.S. MARINES CORPS SHARE SKILLS AT CARAT EXERCISE


PENANJONG GARRISON,  Wednesday 13 November 2014 – First Battalion, Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) and Second Battalion, United States Marines Corps (USMC) conducted an exercise during the Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) 2014. CARAT Exercise marked its 20th annual exercise with Brunei Darussalam this year. 

The final day of exercise today was witnessed by the Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah.

The exerise was based on Military Operation in Urban Terrain (MOUT) by conducting a two days symposium, a five days practical exercise and a day of basic jungle operation, where all activity was conducted at Penanjong Garrison. During the exercise, personnel from the RBAF was able to understand and execute the trainning, tactic, procedures from USMC and was able to deliver a very professional level of instruction. The symposium was held at the Evolution Centre while the practical exercise was conducted at the FIBUA Complex – both held at the Training Institute RBAF.

The 5-day exercise was conducted from 10th November until 14th November 2014 with the aim to maintain relationship between the two armed forces in order to foster diplomatic ties and enhance mutual understanding and relationship between both the armed forces. 

About 109 RBAF personnel made up of the total exercise participation. This include 100 personnels from RBLF, 2 personnel from Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), 5 personnels from TI RBAF and 2 personnel from Special Force Regiment (SFR). 

Both personnel from USMC and 1Bn RBLF were accomodated at Transit Camp, Penanjong Garison. Throught the exercise, they gained friendship and also had the opportunity to visit the places of interest in Brunei Darussalam.
