Russian media say China has become one of the few nations capable of building a high-definition Earth observation satellite after it launched its first, and with existing weapons the system may be one of the most powerful in the world, reports Duowei, an outlet run by overseas Chinese.
The observation satellite Gaofen-2 launched Aug. 19 from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center, is able to discern one-meter-long objects on the ground with high resolution in full color. Russia's latest observation satellite has a 30-centimeter detection rate while that of the leading power in the race, the US, reaches 12.7 centimeters.
