Commander Australian Boarder Protection Command, Rear Admiral Michael Noonan paid a courtesy call on Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage at the Naval Headquarters on 05th May 2014. He made a presentation focused on the boarder protection operations implemented to counter multiple maritime security threats that include people smuggling and IUU fishing. Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Her Excellency Robyn Mudie, Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral Jayantha Perera, Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Rear Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne and Director General Operations, Rear Admiral Neil Rosayro were also present on the occasion.
Rear Admiral Michael Noonan is a Principal Warfare Officer and Air Direction specialist, and assumed the position of Commander Border Protection Command in December 2013. His previous positions include Commodore Training, Director General Operations in Headquarters Joint Operations Command, where he was responsible for the control and over sight of all operations and joint exercises involving the Australia Defence Force; and Director of Sailors’ Career Management. He was awarded Commendations for Distinguished Service for his role in operations in the Middle East in 2003 and 2009, and he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in June 2012.
