Brunei: MINDEF OFFICIALS ATTENDED ASEAN REGIONAL FORUM DEFENCE OFFICIALS’ DIALOGUE


BRUSSELS, Tuesday 8 April 2014 – The ASEAN Regional Forum Defence Officials’ Dialogue (ARF-DOD) meeting under the co-chairmanship of the European Union and Myanmar was held today at Sheraton Brussels Hotel, Belgium.  The Forum was co-chaired by Brigadier General Walter Huhn, Senior Military Adviser, Crisis Management and Planning Directorate, European External Action Service – European Union and Major General Tin Maung Win, Deputy Chief of the Armed Forces Training, Office of the Chief of Armed Forces Training, The Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

One of the objectives of the ARF DOD is to share best practices among member countries on areas of collective regional security interests. For this ARF DOD, it discussed two main topics which were maritime security, led by EU and Role of Military in Disaster Relief led by Myanmar.  During the meeting, EU has also taken the opportunity to brief on EU military operations and missions as well as developments in EU Defence Industry Collaboration.

The Forum was attended by most of the ARF member states except Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Laos, and Sri Lanka. Brunei Darussalam was represented by officials from the Ministry of Defence.  A welcoming dinner was hosted by Brigadier General Walter Huhn, European External Action Service, European Union.

The ARF DOD meeting ended with both co-chairs giving their closing remarks.
