A commissioning, naming and flag-presenting ceremony of the new "Jieyang" corvette (locally designated guided missile frigate) of the Chinese Navy (PLAN) was held on the morning of January 26, 2014 at a naval port in Shantou of south China’s Guangdong province, marking that the ship is officially commissioned to the South China Sea Fleet of the PLAN.
"Jieyang" is the Tenth Type 056 Corvette (Jiangdao class). The ship was launched exactly one year ago at the Huangpu Shipyard in Guangzhou on January 26, 2013, it is the third unit of the class built in Guangzhou, and the 2nd Type 056 corvette commissioned in 2014.
The PLAN now has 10 Type 056 corvettes in service: 2 with the North Fleet, 3 with East Fleet and 5 with the South Fleet.
