Two new warships joined an air-and-sea drill staged yesterday by the local garrison of the People’s Liberation Army, less than a week after hundreds of thousands of people took part in the annual July 1 march for democracy.
The two ships formally joined the garrison on Monday and were taking part in its exercises for the first time. They sailed from a PLA base at Stonecutters Island through “the prosperous Victoria Harbour”, Xinhua reported.
“The Hong Kong garrison is always improving its ability to undertake defence … preserving Hong Kong’s safety, prosperity and stability,” a PLA spokesman told the state news agency.
