Singapore has honoured Australia’s Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Geoff Brown, AO, with the Meritorious Service Medal (Military), recognising the close ties between the Republic of Singapore Air Force and the Royal Australian Air Force.
Air Marshal Brown said he was “humbled and very grateful” to receive the award, which was conferred by the Singaporean Minister for Defence, Dr Ng Eng Hen.
The award honours service of conspicuous merit characterised by resource and devotion of duty, including service marked by exceptional ability, merit and exemplary conduct.
“The significant interaction between the RAAF and the Republic of Singapore Air Force spans across a wide spectrum of activity and is one of the strongest relationships in the region,” Air Marshal Brown said.
“I am extremely proud of the strong ties that exist between our nations and amongst the military across all levels of the three services. We pride ourselves in the strength of this bond with the RSAF and look forward to further advancing our joint capabilities.”
Australia and Singapore cooperate on regional security through the Five Power Defence Arrangements, and in the training of RSAF personnel at RAAF Base Pearce in WA, and at Oakey Army Aviation Centre and the Shoalwater Bay Military Training Area in Queensland.
“I would like to acknowledge the capable personnel in the RAAF, whose professionalism and willingness to engage their counterparts in Singapore has made this achievable. I am confident that we will endeavour to meet the challenges the future brings with the same proactive, positive and collaborative attitude we have demonstrated in the past,” Air Marshal Brown said.
