Brunei: 7th ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting


7TH ASEAN DEFENCE MINISTERS' MEETING IS FINALLY HERE

Bandar Seri Begawan, Tuesday 07 May 2013 – The 7th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting is taking place today at the Indera Samudra Grand Hall, Empire Hotel and Country Club, Brunei Darussalam.

The meeting is expected to review existing ASEAN defence cooperation and consider new initiatives to support ASEAN efforts in community building in particular the ASEAN Political Security Community. The meeting is also expected to receive reports on preparations for the Second ASEAN Humanitarian and Disaster Relief Exercise (2nd AHX) and ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus Humanitarian and Disaster Relief and Military Medicine Exercise (ADMM Plus HADR/MM Ex). The meeting is also expected to have an exchange of views on regional and international security and defence matters.

The 7th ADMM carries the theme ‘Securing Our People, Our Future Together’. This supports ASEAN’s efforts in community building and integration towards an ASEAN Community by 2015.

The ADMM is the highest defence mechanism within ASEAN which provides a platform for strategic dialogue and practical cooperation. It aims to promote mutual trust and confidence through greater understanding of defence and security challenges as well as enhancement of transparency and openness.

BRUNEI DARUSSALAM DECLARATION OF ASEAN DEFENCE MINISTERS SIGNING CEREMONY

Bandar Seri Begawan, Tuesday 07 May 2013 – A signing ceremony of the Brunei Darussalam Declaration of the ASEAN Defence Ministers: “Securing Our People, Our Future Together” took place this afternoon at the Indera Samudra Ballroom, The Empire Hotel and Country Club, Brunei Darussalam. 

Signing the declaration were the Chairman of the 7th ADMM, The Honourable Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Retired) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar, Minister of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office, and the ASEAN Defence Ministers, the Secretary General of ASEAN, and representative.

The ceremony was followed by the 7th ADMM Chairman’s Press Statement and later a question and answer session for invited media personnel.
