The soft power of the PLA Air Force is on show at the Ninth China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition at Zhuhai in Guangdong province between Nov. 12-18. With "Openness, Confidence, Cooperation" as its new slogan, the Chinese air force is trying to attract more recruits from the younger generation with its aerobatic display team, its emphasis on equal opportunities and promotional videos.
To show the PLA Air Force as a branch of the armed forces with prestige and tradition, a short movie portrays a young boy's father as a test pilot working on the L-15 advanced jet trainer designed by Hongdu Aviation Industry in Nanchang, Jiangxi province, while his mother works at the company as a technician. Eventually, the boy flies the aircraft designed by his parents as a young cadet in the air force, and the baton has been passed on in the big PLA family.
