The Government’s development works at Gallipoli Barracks, Enoggera, are well under way, with $509 million of the total expected cost of $788 million having been spent.
The works are part of the Enhanced Land Force project, which will see the modernisation and increased capacity of Defence facilities across the country.
The Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, Senator David Feeney and Senator for Queensland, Senator Mark Furner inspected the works today.
Senator Feeney said the works demonstrate the Government’s commitment to Enoggera and the surrounding area.
“Each month we are spending $13-20 million on the works here at Enoggera. Clearly, this Enhanced Land Force project is a priority for the Government as is Enoggera and the Defence community living here,” Senator Feeney said.
“These works will provide the Australian Defence Force at Enoggera with modern, purpose-built facilities. These new facilities allow for the effective operational and training requirements of 7th Brigade, which has expanded under the Enhanced Land Force initiative.
“You will definitely start seeing more facilities in the coming months, as we see the completion of car parks, a childcare centre and new facilities for 8/9 Battalion RAR (Royal Australian Regiment).”
Senator Furner agreed that the spending was good news for the people of Enoggera.
“On average, these works have delivered over 500 jobs that would not have existed otherwise. That’s good news for the people of Enoggera,” Senator Furner said.
“It also means increased capacity for Gallipoli Barracks. This will have positive effects on the surrounding community when the ADF come to live and spend here.
“Although this Government has delivered quite a few of the new facilities already, there are still quite a few to look forward to,” he said.
