AS the US increases its focus on the Asia-Pacific, Malaysia has invited Russian leader Vladimir Putin to be the keynote speaker at a major regional defence and security conference.
Other speakers will include China's Defence Minister Liang Guanglie, Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, India's Defence Minister Shri A.K. Antony, and a host of other regional defence and foreign ministers and defence chiefs.

But it seems there will not be a US official in sight.
The Putrajaya Forum is organised by the Malaysian Institute of Defence and Security, funded by Malaysia's Defence Ministry. Its conference on "enhancing multilateralism for regional defence and security" takes place in Kuala Lumpur from April 17-19.
The only Australians listed to attend will be army chief Lieutenant General David Morrison and an expert on national resilience, Rita Parker.
