MANILA, Philippines - MalacaƱang yesterday insisted on a peaceful and multilateral solution to the West Philippine Sea dispute amid reports that Chinese President Hu Jintao had urged his country’s navy to prepare for combat.
Insofar as the Philippines was concerned, it had spelled out its policy that “what is ours is ours; what is disputed, we can discuss,” presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said.
Lacierda noted the Chinese leader had called on its navy to prepare for military combat amid growing regional tensions over maritime disputes and a US campaign to assert itself as a Pacific power.
