Brunei: ASEAN Defence Senior Official's Meeting Retreat

BALI, INDONESIA, Saturday 22 October 2011 - The ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Meeting Retreat (ADSOM Retreat) was held today at the Grand Hyatt Nusa Dua Hotel, Bali, Indonesia.

The Retreat was chaired by Air Marshal Eris Herryanto, Secretary General, Ministry of Defence, Republic of Indonesia. The Retreat tabled the recent activities and development of the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) and the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) Concept Papers briefed by the respective chair ASEAN countries, as follow:

•    The third workshop of the ASEAN Defence Establishments and Civil Society Organisations Cooperation on Non-Traditional Security: Table-Top Exercise on Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance, held in Bangkok, Thailand, on 6 – 9 September 2011, by Thailand;

•    The ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Exercise, held in Singapore, on 12 – 14 July 2011, by Singapore;

•    The 1st ADMM-Plus Experts’ Working Group Meeting on Maritime Security, held in Perth, Australia, on 20 – 22 July 2011, by Malaysia;

•    The 1st ADMM-Plus Experts’ Working Group Meeting on Military Medicine, held in Singapore, on 28 – 30 July 2011, by Singapore; and

•    The 1st ADMM-Plus Experts’ Working Group Meeting on Counter-Terrorism, held in Makassar, Indonesia, on 19 – 20 September 2011.  

The Retreat also discussed the proposed ASEAN Security Outlook report.

On the preparation of the ADMM Retreat, the ADSOM Leaders agreed on the provisional agenda and working papers of the Minister’s Retreat to be held on 24 October 2011.

Brunei Darussalam was represented by Haji Awang Saifulbahri Haji Awang Mansor, Permanent Secretary (Defence Policy and Development), Ministry of Defence; Colonel (L) Abd Rahman BMDP Haji Bakar, Director of Intelligence, Directorate of Intelligence, Ministry of Defence; and Haji Adi Ihram DP Haji Mahmud, Acting Director of Defence Policy, Directorate of Defence Policy, Ministry of Defence.
