TONY Abbott has been forced to pull his defence spokesman David Johnston into line, rejecting his claims the opposition would rewrite the Defence white paper if it won office
The Opposition Leader has also assured Australians that an incoming Coalition government would not compromise the nation's operational capabilities by cutting Defence spending.
Mr Abbott was forced to wade into the debate after Senator Johnston told The Australian: "We would be looking very urgently to redo the white paper."
Speaking on the ABC's 7:30, Mr Abbott said: "No one has said that we would tear up the Defence white paper.
