Exercise Talisman Sabre 2011, the largest exercise in the Asia Pacific region this year, included for the first time a substantial civilian component, drawn from Australian and United states government agencies. Talisman Sabre 2011 was the fourth occurrence of this biennial military exercise series conducted between the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and the United States Pacific Command (PACOM).
The exercise plays a key role in continuing and enhancing interoperability in the bilateral relationship between Australia and the United States.
Over seventy civilian personnel from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT), the Department of State (DoS), including the Office of the Coordinator for Reconstruction and Stabilization (S/CRS), the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), including the Australian Civilian Corps (ACC), the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) supported the multiagency collaboration during Exercise Talisman Sabre 2011. This multiagency involvement was facilitated by the Asia Pacific Civil-Military Centre of Excellence.
