Sri Lanka: South Asia Maritime Security Conference concludes on a successful note

The South Asia Maritime Security Conference (MARSEC), which was co-hosted by Sri Lanka Navy in collaboration with Center for Civil Military Relations (CCMR) and Pacific Command (PACOM) of the United States Navy, concluded on a successful note on 15th July 2011. The regional maritime conference held at the Hotel Galadari, Colombo, from 11th to 15th July 2011 was attended by senior maritime security professionals from Bangladesh, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Australia and United States of America.

The top level conference provided an opportunity for regional participants to meet in an academic and non-binding venue to discuss maritime security issues. The five day long deliberations paved way for enhancement of mutual understanding of regional maritime security challenges in South Asia and initiation of actions for a multilateral approach to maritime security concerns.
