Maurer, who came to Korea on July 11, also visited the DMZ, the National Cemetery, the United Nations Command, and the Ministry of National Unification, and then returned to Switzerland on July 13.
Minister Maurer has served in the Swiss Army with the rank of major. He was elected to the parliament of Zürich in 1983 and was elected president of the Swiss People's Party. Since December 2008, he has been a member of the Swiss Federal Council, leading the Swiss Federal Department of Defence.
