Korea to send disused sea shells to Columbia

Korea and Columbia agreed to have Korea's 8,000 disused sea-based artillery shells to be transferred to Columbia.

Lee Seon-cheol, the head of the Office of Military Force and Resources Management under the Defense Ministry met Solano, a chargĂ© d´affaires of Columbian Embassy in Korea, on Jan. 27 and discussed ways to boost defense ties between two countries, including handing over sea-based artillery shells.

"Decision to transfer [sea-based] artillery shells has been made followed by Columbian Defense Ministry's request," said a defense official in Seoul. "Shells that will be transferred are ones Korean navy do not need anymore due to old launchers."

The official also said that the transfer of artillery shells will contribute positively in not only deepening military ties between two countries but also beefing up arms export from Korea to Columbia.

Korea's Defense Ministry has handing over many disuse military supplies, such as military trucks, speed boats and aircrafts, to the Philippines, Kazakhstan, Peru, Indonesia, Cambodia and so on.
