The United States is aiming to work with its Asia Pacific partners to create the "proper balance" to make sure that there is not one entity that has too much influence in the region, a visiting US congressman said Tuesday.
Rep. Rob Wittman, who is a member of the House Armed Services Committee and leading a Congressional delegation on a visit to Taiwan, said "having that balance and making sure that we understand that and clearly state our partnership with these nations is how we make sure there's a proper balance in the region."
Wittman made the remarks in response to questions on China's military threat to Taiwan under its new leader Xi Jinping and the possibility of future US arms sales to Taiwan.
