News Story: Political Rift Overshadows Anti-Terror Campaign - Ex-NDS Chiefs

by Sharif Amiry

Amrullah Saleh, former head of the Afghan intelligence agency – the National Directorate of Security (NDS) on Thursday said the rift in the country's political front has contrasted the efforts to overcome the ongoing war in Afghanistan.

Saleh made the remarks during the inauguration of a charity organization (Foundation for Funding Heroes) in Kabul, where he said Afghans have been exploited by some self-interested politicians.

"What we have lost is not the absence of harmony among the security forces; the thing we have lost takes root from a lack of harmony and compassion between politicians and fighters," Saleh added.

The charity is established by former NDS chief Rahmatullah Nabil who stepped down from his post few month ago. The charity is aimed at supporting families of fallen Afghan soldiers.

"Despite government's negligence, Afghan soldiers continue their efforts, they not only work as a powerful force for Afghanistan, but they are also the backbone of our national unity," Nabil told the gathering.
