Brunei: Exercise PELICAN 31/11 Launch

MUARA, Monday 11 July 2011 - The Exercise Pelican series 31/11 between Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) and Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) opening ceremony was launched on at Royal Brunei Navy Headquarters, Muara.  The bilateral exercise is an auspicious occasion for both navies as this is the 31st series since 1979.  The exercise this year is hosted by Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) and will be conducted in Brunei Darussalam from 11 July 2011 until 13 July 2011.

The objective of the exercise is to develop a better understanding and foster a good working relationship between the two navies through the practise of the common procedures and naval traditions.

Officiating the task group activation was First Admiral Haji Abdul Halim bin Haji Mohd Hanifah, Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy who also activated the task group 31.1.  The Commander task group for the exercise is Lt Col (L) Zilhusam bin Haji Rahman from the RBN and is deputized by Lt Col Chew Chun Liang from RSN.

The Darussalam Class Ship, KDB Darulehsan will be participating for the very first time in a bilateral exercise while the other two ships from RBN, namely KDB Ijhtihad and KDB Syafaat, is participating for the first time in exercise pelican. Likewise, the RSN Frigate, RSS Stalwart who had earlier participated in the inaugural Brunei International Fleet Review 2011 is also making her first appearance in this exercise.  With the induction of these new patrol vessel and frigate, this provides opportunities for both navies to bring exercise pelican to further exercising new evolution.
