News Report: Pakistan-Occupied Baluchistan Leader to Seek Political Asylum in India

Baluchistan leaders are raising voice against atrocities carried out by Pakistan forces.

New Delhi — Brahamdagh Bugti, leader who is fighting for independence for Baluchistan, said that he would soon seek political asylum in India. Currently, Bugti is exiled in Geneva, Switzerland and will file the asylum application to the Indian government through the Indian embassy in Switzerland.

"We have decided to formally file asylum papers to Indian Government soon. We will follow the legal process for the application," says Brahamdagh Bugti in Geneva.

Baloch Republican Party, headed by Bugti, has decided to approach the International Criminal Court against Pakistani army generals. Bugti also said that with the support of India, Pakistan and Afghanistan, his party will file a case against China at the International Court of Justice for construction works related to China Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Meanwhile, Baloch National Movement, another political party from Baluchistan, blamed Pakistani authorities for mass atrocities against the Baluchi people since 2010 and said that Islamabad wants to forcibly keep Baluchistan under its authority so that it could exploit Baluch resources and trade it to Beijing for the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

Since 15 August this year, a war of words between India and Pakistan has started up over atrocities in Baluchistan. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had raised the issue of human rights violation by the Pakistani government in Baluchistan for the first time during his Independence Day speech on August 15. Earlier this week, India raised the issue at the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Baluchistan lies in Pakistan’s north-west and has been demanding independence from the Pakistan administration for the last many decades.
