News Story: Senators Claim ISI Has Infiltrated Afghan Security Sector

By Mirabed Joyenda

Senators in the Meshrano Jirga (Upper House of Parliament) on Sunday claimed that the infiltration of Pakistan’s military intelligence (ISI) in security institutions is a key reason for the high level of insecurity in the country.

The senators also blasted Afghan security officials for not attending parliament’s question and answer session and said that the investigative team tasked to probe the Sardar Daud military hospital attack was not impartial.

“If government fails to recapture districts under the control of the Taliban, I think that more districts will fall to the Taliban next spring,” said senator Hashim Alokozai.

“I think these officials do not feel responsible before the people; pressure must be put on them; they should not run away from their responsibilities,” said senator Nabiha Mustafa.

The security officials were supposed to appear before the senate on Sunday, but the session was delayed after the security officials announced that the investigation into the deadly attack on the military hospital had not yet been completed.
